Prior to opening my own practice, I served as a Family Court Master for the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County. In that role, I heard over 16,000 cases involving a myriad of family law issues, including child support, domestic violence and protection orders, juvenile guardianships, and juvenile dependency cases. I also had experience with juvenile delinquency, divorce, custody, visitation, and adoption cases.
In deciding a case, a judicial officer must know the law, know the facts, and be able to understand both sides of every argument. I carry that ability with me into private practice. I will give you an objective, honest opinion about your case and not just tell you what I think you want to hear.
From a personal standpoint, I can understand what my clients are going through in a way that many people cannot.
Growing up in a small town, I learned to resolve conflicts amicably, face-to-face, honestly, and quickly, but I also learned that sometimes a fight is exactly what you need to clear the air. Now that I'm an attorney, my first impulse is still to resolve conflicts amicably, face-to-face, honestly, and quickly.
I dropped out of high school when I was 16 but went on to earn my GED and put myself through college. I then went on to earn an academic scholarship to law school and graduated in 2003.
I attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio. After I graduated, I served as a Judicial Law Clerk to three different Family Court Judges in Reno, Nevada. Though that experience, I came to realize how important the "legal" side of the family legal system is, and how important it is to have a strong and compassionate advocate on your side.
I have been licensed to practice law in Nevada since 2006, and I am a member of the Family Law Section of the Nevada State Bar. I have served as a Family Court Master and a Senior Deputy Attorney General at the Nevada Attorney General's Office. I also worked to represent parents in Juvenile Dependence cases, and I served as a Judicial Law Clerk to three different Family Court Judges. I am a certified mediator through the National Judicial College.
The decisions made in family court affect your entire life, forever. They affect the relationships you have with your spouse, your partner, your parents, your family, your children - and those are the most important things in life.
I believe that being a good lawyer also means being a good teacher. Helping clients understand what's happening and explaining legal matters in a straightforward way is one of the best parts of being an attorney. I have taught family law issues locally, at the Nevada Family Law Conference, and at national judicial conferences. I have also taught aspiring paralegals at a local career college.
My greatest adventures have been climbing in Antarctica, hiking Monte Fitz Roy in Argentina, skydiving, and parenting two rowdy boys - the most dangerous and important adventure of all.
